Child Care Respite Program

Funding for this program comes from the Federal National Child Benefit. North Central Alberta Child and Family Services Authority has developed the Child Care Respite Program as a relief option available to families by providing child care placements for families at risk that are in need of support in their child rearing role and will extend to families of children with disabilities who need relief care.

Respite can be provided in licensed day care centres, agency approved or Authority Approved Family Day Homes.

Referrals will be accepted from:

  • caseworkers
  • community programs
  • day care centres
  • family day home agencies
  • FCSS

Referrals will be based on:

  • the risk of child and/or the family
  • the health needs of parent
  • and/or the developmental delays of the child

Families eligible for childcare subsidy should be served through that program as well. The family will apply for childcare subsidy if support required exceeds 50 hours per month. The payment of the parent portion would then be considered as the Respite Care cost.
