This is a provincially funded and income-tested program to assist low income Alberta families to pay a portion of their child care costs for their pre-school children, when they attend a licensed day care centre or Approved Family Day Home.

Approximately 44 percent of children attending licensed day care and 30 per cent of children attending approved family day homes are currently subsidized. Families are eligible for Child Care Subsidy only when both the applicant and co-applicant (spouse, common-law partner, live in boyfriend/girlfriend) are not available and/or unable to look after the child(ren).
